Fire can be a beautiful part of camp life while also carrying real responsibility. To keep everyone safe and to protect this land, please follow the guidelines below and share them with your group.
Designated Fire Areas Only
All fires and open flames must stay within designated areas.
This includes campfires, candles, oil lamps, lighters, matches, and smoking materials.
Smoking is permitted only in the two designated smoking areas shown on the site map. Smoking anywhere else on the property is not allowed.
Communal Fire Pit Use
The communal fire pit may be used only with prior written approval from Groundswell.
If approval is granted, the group must assign one responsible adult to supervise the fire at all times.
Fires may never be left unattended, even briefly.
Firewood
Your rental includes one (1) pallet of firewood for use in approved fire areas.
Additional firewood may be purchased from Groundswell, subject to availability and current pricing.
Please do not gather or harvest wood from the land. Unauthorized harvesting is strictly prohibited.
Candles
Candles are allowed only in the dining hall and only under the direct supervision of Groundswell staff.
Candles are not permitted in cabins, outdoor spaces, or other indoor areas.
Fire Restrictions & Weather Conditions
Groundswell reserves the right to prohibit all fires, including campfires and candles, at any time if:
Local fire danger ratings are High or above OR a fire ban is issued by local authorities
These decisions are made for everyone’s safety and must be followed without exception.

Groundswell's kitchen is a shared, well-loved space. Proper use of the equipment is essential for safety, sanitation, and keeping everything in good working order. Please review and follow these guidelines carefully, and make sure all participants using the kitchen are aware of them.
Dishwasher Use
The dishwasher basin MUST be filled completely with water before starting a cycle or engaging the pump. Running the dishwasher without a full basin can damage the pump and the system.
All silverware and small items MUST be secured inside two locked trays before running the dishwasher. Loose items can fall into the machine and prevent the plunger from operating properly.
Oven & Stove Use
The oven MUST be turned off in two steps when finished:
1. Turn the temperature dial all the way down
2. Switch the oven control button to OFF
Both steps are required every time.
The stovetop pilot lights must remain lit at all times.
If a pilot light goes out, notify Groundswell staff immediately.
Ventilation
The range ventilation hood MUST be turned on whenever the stove and/or oven is in use.
This helps manage heat, smoke, and air quality and is required for safe operation.
Failure to follow these kitchen guidelines may result in equipment damage and/or safety hazards.
If you are unsure how to operate any appliance, please pause and ask a Groundswell staff member for assistance. We’re happy to help!

Nothing may be left behind in the Waste Outpost or elsewhere on site after departure.
